Apple is adding Challenge Based Learning to their Educational Repertoire
Did you know that Apple provides programming that can help you make changes to your school and or community? Check out Apple’s Challenge Based Learning!
Challenge Based Learning (CBL) is a flexible, technology-enabled learning framework developed by Apple to make student learning relevant, meaningful and connected to real-world issues. It positions learners as co-owners and co-authors of their learning journeys—inviting them to identify personal, community or global challenges while still developing subject knowledge in literacy, math, science, technology and the arts.
The framework is organised into clear phases—Engage, Investigate and Act—each supported with educator resources, definitions, tips and activities to scaffold implementation. During Engage, students connect to a “Big Idea” and frame an Essential Question or challenge; in Investigate, they plan and conduct research, ask guiding questions and build knowledge; in Act, they apply their learning to develop and implement a solution, share their work, reflect and document the process.
For teachers and administrators, CBL offers a ready-to-use “quick start” set of videos and tools to embed this framework in classrooms or school-wide initiatives. It supports student agency, real-world relevance, collaboration and reflective practice—all key elements for modern, engaging learning environments.
