As detailed in our previous newsletter (click here for access), we have recently launched an ambition network expansion project that will result in each of the 33 Atlantic First Nation communities having the opportunity to add 2-4 additional Band operated buildings - at no cost to them.
During the winter, we began working with the 4 communities (in red below) at the top of our priority list. As outlined in our proposal, the 11 communities offered expansion each year will be determined using various factors, including:
Using the factors mentioned above, the 11 communities that have been or will be offered expansion in year 1 (2025) of the project are as follows:
Update as of June 17, 2025
Elsipogtog - all new fibre has been run in the community. Our team will now arrange to go to site to install all necessary network equipment and verify connectivity. Estimated completion date: by end of July 2025. 4 new Band-operated sites will be added to our network upon completion.
Sheshatshiu - all new fibre has been run in the community. Our team is in the community this week to install all necessary network equipment and verify connectivity. Estimated completion date: by end of July 2025. 4 new Band operated sites will be added to our network upon completion.
Wagmatcook - no new fibre was required for this community. Our team was in the community last week to install all necessary network equipment and verify connectivity. They need to return to complete additional work in order to establish connectivity. Estimated completion date: by end of July 2025. 4 new Band-operated sites will be added to our network upon completion.
Sipekne'katik - plans finalized to run new fibre in the community, but the fibre build is held up due to delays with delivery of equipment and supplies needed. Once the fibre build is complete, our team will arrange to go to site to install all necessary network equipment and verify connectivity. Estimated completion date: by end of August 2025. 4 new Band operated sites will be added to our network upon completion.
Abegweit & L'sitkuk - we have met with both communities, who have identified their list of priority sites to be added. We await quotes from contractors on the fibre build required to connect these new sites. Target completion date - September 2025.
Natoaganeg & Miawpukek - we are in the process of arranging meetings with both communities to discuss the project. Target completion date - October 2025
