At LSK Mi’kmaq School, technology is becoming a powerful bridge between tradition and innovation. This K–12 school is thoughtfully embracing digital tools to strengthen language, culture, and student engagement while honouring Mi’kmaq identity.

In classrooms across the school, students are using interactive platforms such as Blooket and Gimkit to reinforce Mi’kmaq vocabulary and concepts in fun, game-based formats. Teachers are also incorporating Keynote and Canva to help students create presentations that celebrate stories, traditions, and community knowledge in their own voices. These tools make language learning dynamic, collaborative, and meaningful.

The recent community investment in Smartboards has added another layer of hands-on, interactive learning. Lessons now come alive through movement, visuals, and shared participation, allowing students to engage physically and socially with content in new ways.

STEM learning is also a growing focus at LSK. Students explore creativity and problem-solving with tools like Beaverbot, Makedo, and iPads. Whether designing, building, coding, or creating digital projects, learners are developing critical thinking skills grounded in culturally relevant experiences.

Elementary Mi’kmaq Language and Culture teacher Elle Michael has been the driving force in many of these initiatives as she continues to expand her own technology knowledge, recognizing how digital tools help students confidently walk in both worlds—honouring their heritage while preparing for the future.
