Pictou Landing Teacher, Kim Dorrington, Elevates Literacy with Gamified Learning

Kim Dorrington, a dedicated teacher at Pictou Landing School, is proving that building literacy skills can be both wildly effective and outrageously fun. Kim has implemented the innovative digital resource, Mrs.Wordsmith, to engage her students in Grades 5 through 8. Her successful implementation highlights an inspiring example of a community highlight in tech integration across our schools

This fusion of structured phonics and captivating gameplay makes vocabulary and language development highly accessible for students.

What’s truly remarkable is the level of student engagement Kim has managed to achieve with this gamified learning method. As Technology Integration Consultant, James Young, I was able to observe the class's interaction with the program firsthand. James saw how Kim's gamified approach engaged the kids and how it even helped with a smooth transition from gym class.
